Brighton Rock

This book reminded me of General Hospital. I think mostly because it involved gangster/mob characters. It was a very interesting book. It is a book that makes you think twice about the way you view people - whether you consider them good, bad, wrong, or right. The way the story was written makes you test your stance on what is wrong and right. I think the author said alot about wrong and right in the world and the ambiguity of the relationship between wrong and right. Brighton Rock was overall a great book that I really enjoyed reading. Next weeks book...not so much.

Handful of Dust

This was definitely my favorite read for the class, thus far. The book was a satirical comedy and I really enjoyed reading it. It was easier to read and less abstract. The subject matter of the book was at times dark and disheartening, but the way it was written made it humorous. It was interesting to see an inside look at upper class society from a perspective that was very critical. I think critical viewpoints are the most revealing. I'm disappointed that this class is about to come to an end. This is the online class that I enjoy working on the most. It's always something new and interesting. I'm finished with the LSAT...forever. I can't wait to move on and get all this other work done that has seemed to pile up over the last few weeks. Can't wait for fall break either...I get to meet my new nephew up in Vermont. Lots of exciting changes and events coming up :)

Lady Chatterley

I think the posts this week were great. It was interesting to hear everyone's opinions on the permiscuity of the characters. The story did make me sad. The overall disregard for the sanctity of marriage was disheartening. I enjoyed the dramatic twists and turns, but was left with an overall empathetic feeling for the characters. The story was interestig at least and kept me turning page after page. It almost reminded me of a soap opera. I have the LSAT on Saturday so sadly, this class hasn't been the first on my list. I've been juggling alot to get my study time in and hopefully I can continue to keep up this week. I can't wait for Saturday to be over with so that I can get back to concetrating on my school work. I'm glad to have finished up my website assignment and I felt I did a good job on it. I need to look forward to the final project for this class and try to get a head start. The next time I post, I will have already taken the test...yessss!

Passage to India

Forster's novel was very interesting. It wasn't the quickest read, but it was interesting and a little sad. The British were not portrayed in a nice way, that is for sure. Aziz's constant struggles really won my sympathy. Each character was so different and I enjoyed getting to know each one. Adela was probably the character I enjoyed reading about most. I did rush through the book and I think if I reread it I could get more out of it, but it just seems like my amount of homework and the number of hours in a day is clashing. I have the LSAT in another week so that is where most of my focus is for now. I'm excited to move on to a new book this week. That's all for now...more homework left to finish.

Mrs. Dalloway

I enjoy Mrs. Dalloway. I've read the novel before so I always enjoy going back over it and discussing it in depth. The novel is different. I enjoy Woolf's writing style. It took some time getting used to but it got easier as I kept reading. I decided to watch The Hours this weekend because I knew the movie was centered around the book. I thought the movie was great and it made me appreciate the novel even more. I'm excited that I finished my website and I've got to finish up my paper now over Mrs. Dalloway. I enjoyed this week's posts. I think everyone got involved to a point that I learned alot more than what I initially thought and knew about the novel.

The Good Soldier

The Good Soldier was an interesting novel. I enjoyed it more than I enjoyed The Portrait. I've grown to enjoy books with unreliable narrators. I enjoy the stories more when the narrator is a part of the storyline. I find myself trying to sift through the emotion-filled descriptions of the characters and the facts of the situation and judge the characters for myself. There were some very interesting characters throughout the story, but I would have to say that Leonora was definitely my favorite. I'm excited about the upcoming group assignment and the next two novels. I think I may be more excited about a three day weekend...

First Week

Well I can definitely say that this class had alot more work than any of my other online classes this week. It's a good thing I began reading Joyce's book before school began. The book, overall, wasn't my favorite but it wasn't awful. I learned alot about Modernism by looking on Wikipedia earlier this week. I think it was important for me to understand Modernism before discussing the book and its Modernistic qualities. Modernism is very different and isn't something I've studied in depth before. I think it will be very rewarding to dig into Modernist literature and study its many qualities and faults.
